The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps eligible households with low income pay for home energy services. This includes assistance with heating gas, propane and electricity.
LIHEAP applications open today for eligible Illinois families, including:
- Older adults (60+ years old)
- People with disabilities
- Families with young children (ages 5 or younger)
- Households disconnected from their utilities, have a disconnection notice or have less than 25% in their propane tank
All other income-eligible households can start applying Nov. 1, 2026.
Eligible families can apply through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) website and locate your local LIHEAP office.
