State Representative Tom Weber (R-Lake Villa) issued the following statement today calling on Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs Director Linda Chapa LaVia to resign in the wake of her response to the COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle and Quincy Veterans homes that have claimed more than fifty lives:
“Today’s testimony before the House Judiciary – Civil Committee by Director Chapa LaVia showed the current leadership at the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs is not capable of protecting our veterans in state facilities,” said Weber. “The inability to answer various questions and demonstrate a clearly defined strategy to correct the problems that have led to more than fifty deaths make it clear that new leadership is needed to ensure the safety of our veterans.”
