Weber Named Spokesperson on Two Committees, Assigned to Six in Total

State Representative Tom Weber (R-Lake Villa) has officially been assigned to serve as spokesperson for the Consumer Protection and Health and Human Services Appropriations Committees for the 103rd General Assembly.

“It’s an honor to be given this responsibility in my third term to lead the Republican effort on these two committees, there’s a lot of good, bipartisan work to be done here,” Representative Weber said.

The Spokesperson is responsible for leading the efforts of the minority caucus in committee; including questioning witnesses who provide testimony at committee hearings, being the lead advocate for caucus positions on legislation assigned to that committee, and negotiating with the Committee Chairperson to reach bipartisan consensus on as many bills as possible.

In addition to the Spokesperson assignments, Rep. Weber will serve on four more committees; Mental Health, Labor and Commerce, Judiciary – Civil, and Adoption and Child Welfare.

“I encourage anyone to reach out to my office with input on these policy areas. I look forward to diving into these topics, and especially continuing my work on the Adoption and Child Welfare Committee,” Rep. Weber continued. Constituents can contact Rep. Weber at weber@ilhousegop.org and at RepWeber.com.

Committee assignments were handed out by House Republican Leader Tony McCombie this week while legislators were down in Springfield for the first full week of session in the 103rd General Assembly. Committees meet at the discretion of their Democrat chairpersons and are not yet scheduled to meet, but expectations are that committee work will begin in the next week or two.
