This morning, Gov. Pritzker signed the Democrats’ latest bait-and-switch green energy bill into law.
“For years, Democrats have promised their green energy initiatives would ensure reliability and bring down costs,” said Rep. Tom Weber. “Instead, they’ve crippled our energy supply and caused costs to skyrocket for ratepayers. The report released last month by the Illinois Power Agency affirmed these warnings. For the PJM region, which is all of us who get our electricity through ComEd or an affiliate, ‘PJM is expected to experience a capacity shortfall beginning in 2029, with the deficit projected to widen in subsequent years if left unabated.’
“Illinois used to be a net-exporter of energy, but now, not only are we a net-importer of energy, we are having to import energy generated by coal and gas from other states to meet the needs in our state. All because Democrats refuse to accept the reality that we need an all of the above approach to ensure we have an adequate energy supply to keep rates affordable and ensure reliability.
“Rates are going to keep rising, and reliability is being put at risk. That isn’t good policy.”
