From Lake County: On May 9, 2026, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office will join law enforcement agencies from the Wisconsin state line to Will County in a traffic safety initiative focused on Illinois Route 59. Spanning nearly 72 miles, Illinois Route 59 is a heavily traveled roadway for residents and visitors of this state. Law enforcement agencies participating in this initiative are those with direct jurisdiction over portions of Illinois Route 59.
Throughout the day, Sheriff’s deputies on Illinois Route 59 will focus their attention on the “Fatal Four” traffic violations: Driving Under the Influence (DUI), speeding, seat belt / child restraint use, and distracted driving. These high-visibility campaigns are part of our efforts to keep Lake County and its roadways safe.
This additional enforcement effort is supported by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation and aligns with Illinois’ statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Click It or Ticket” and “It’s Not a Game” campaigns.
