State Representative Tom Weber joined a number of colleagues in reaching out to Governor J.B. Pritzker to strengthen Illinois ethics laws. Over two dozen legislators sent a letter to the Governor asking him to veto the watered down ethics reform bill crafted by House and Senate Democrats and instead push for legitimate reforms that will help clean up Illinois politics.
The letter is in response to the resignation on Thursday of Legislative Inspector General Carol Pope. In her resignation letter, Pope said that “this last legislative session has demonstrated true ethics reform is not a priority.” In addition, she pointed to provisions in the ethics reform bill that would further weaken her authority to investigate the actions of General Assembly members.
