For over sixty years, the Illinois Legislative Staff Intern Program (ILSIP) with the University of Illinois Springfield provides paid internships for deeply interested, motivated and talented individuals to work with the Illinois legislature.
The program provides an opportunity to gain legal research and writing skills while being a part of the policy-making process in Illinois. A number of internship participants go on to recieve job placements in legislative staff and state agencies, as well as lobbying firms, businesses and nonprofits.
With the capitol as both workplace and classroom, ILSIP interns earn $2,500 per month and receive four (4) tuition-free political science graduate credits from the University of Illinois Springfield.
There are 24 open positions, with either a partisan legislative or non-partisan research focus, for the 10 month program starting in January 2023. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled and an undergraduate degree is required prior to the January start date.
