Heart disease is the number one cause of death not only in the United States, but in the world, with heart attack and stroke causing 4 out of every 5 heart disease-related deaths. This week, State Representative Tom Weber unanimously passed legislation through the House Insurance Committee to expand coverage for preventive scans.
“Over the past few years, I’ve been working on a piece of legislation to help expand coverage for a simple preventive procedure called a coronary calcium scan that determines a person’s risk,” said State Rep. Tom Weber. “This simple, preventive scan both saves lives and lowers long-term healthcare costs.
“I’m thankful to the bipartisan sponsors who have helped get this bill over the first hurdle, and I look forward to it being taken up by the full House of Representatives.”
